Tasai Chisels

A chisel maker sought out by carpenters from around the country

EST 1975. Tasai Chisels is a workshop that manufactures chisels and planes for both traditional and contemporary architecture, as well as kiridashi and other carving knives for woodcrafts. The workshop draws custom orders from professionals throughout the country. A father and son operation, Akio and Michio do everything from forge welding to final sharpening. In 2014, the Japanese government awarded founder Akio Tasai the designation of Traditional Craftsman.
