City status as of 1934. A city of many charms, Sanjo is not only home to a large population of specialized craftsmen and a sophisticated metal processing industry, but also blessed with fertile lands and the Shinano River. Residents enjoy abundant nature, quality seasonal produce, and local sake. The current City Hall was completed in 1970.
